Create flavorful Asian pulled pork in homemade teriyaki sauce using a slow cooker. Versatile for sandwiches, rice, wraps, or tacos.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup pineapple juice
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons dry sherry
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 0.25 cup cold water
  • 3 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2.5 pounds pork shoulder roast
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, mix soy sauce, chicken broth, pineapple juice, brown sugar, sherry, honey, garlic, sesame oil, ginger, and red pepper flakes. In a separate bowl, whisk cold water and cornstarch to create a thin slurry, then add to the saucepan and stir well.
  • Bring the sauce to a lively boil. Lower the heat and simmer gently until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the teriyaki sauce from the heat.
  • Place the pork roast in a slow cooker and generously coat it with flavorful teriyaki sauce. Allow it to cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours until the pork is tender and effortlessly pulls apart with a fork.
  • Take out the pork from the cooker and allow it to rest for 5 minutes, then shred it using 2 forks.
  • Add the shredded meat back to the pot, stir in the sauce, and heat for approximately 5 minutes. Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
