Homemade Thai iced tea with fragrant spices, creamy condensed milk, and no artificial colors. Deliciously decadent and easy to make.
Ingredients:
  • To brew the tea:
  • 4 tablespoons ceylon loose leaf tea (see recipe note)
  • 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 pod star anise
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste, or 1 vanilla bean , halved lengthwise and scraped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • For serving:
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk
Instructions:
  • Prepare the tea: Combine 4 cups of water in a medium saucepan with tea leaves, cinnamon stick, cardamom, vanilla bean with seeds, turmeric, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat while stirring. Once boiling, cover with a lid and let it steep for 3 minutes. For a stronger flavor, steep for 5 minutes.
  • After steeping, carefully strain the brewed tea into a pitcher through a fine mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth or a coffee filter to remove any spice remnants. Let the tea cool to room temperature before chilling in the fridge.
  • Combine the condensed milk and milk in a small bowl until well mixed.
  • Serve: Fill a glass with ice, pour in the cooled tea, and add the desired amount of milk mixture. Store: Keep brewed Thai tea and milk mix separate until ready to serve. Store Thai tea in a sealed pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. When ready to enjoy, combine ice, Thai tea, condensed milk, and milk on top.
