Try this irresistible Cheddar, bacon, and green onion cheese ball paired with warm Pillsbury™ French Bread for a perfect holiday appetizer.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cans (11 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original French Bread
  • 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
  • 1/2 cup chopped cooked bacon
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup Progresso™ plain panko crispy bread crumbs
  • 1 large red bell pepper (for head and feathers)
  • 1 large yellow bell pepper (for feet, beak and feathers)
  • 2 large candy eyeballs
  • 3 small pretzel twists
  • 3 large pretzel twists
Instructions:
  • Prepare both cans of French bread according to package instructions. Allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack. Set aside 1 teaspoon of cream cheese, cover it, and refrigerate for later use.
  • Combine the remaining cream cheese, shredded cheese, bacon, and green onions in a large bowl. Use an electric mixer on medium speed for 1 to 2 minutes until well mixed, scraping the bowl occasionally. Refrigerate for about 2 hours until the mixture is firm enough to shape into a ball. Enjoy!
  • In an 8-inch nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add bread crumbs and stir frequently for 3 to 4 minutes until they turn a beautiful golden brown. Transfer the toasted bread crumbs to a large piece of waxed paper to cool completely.
  • Form the cheese mixture into a large ball, coat it with toasted bread crumbs, and place it on a serving plate. Remove any excess crumbs.
  • Follow the photo to assemble the turkey cheese ball. Cut a head and three feathers from red bell pepper and 2 feet, 2 feathers, and a small beak from yellow bell pepper. Use reserved cream cheese to attach the candy eyeballs and beak to the head, then gently place the head into the cheese ball. Insert the feet, 3 rows of feathers, and pretzels to create a turkey look. Slice each French loaf into 12 pieces. Serve the cheese ball right away with sliced bread and remaining bell pepper, or refrigerate covered until serving time.
