Make a batch of thick, soft sugar cookies - frost them warm and sprinkle with colorful sugar for the perfect treat.
Ingredients:
  • 2.125 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon hot water or as needed
Instructions:
  • Prepare the cookie dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and butter until creamy. Add in 4 whole eggs and 6 egg yolks, one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt; carefully fold them into the sugar mixture. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously grease the cookie sheets.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Arrange them 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, then cool them on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the frosting while the cookies bake: Combine confectioners' sugar, oil, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Gradually blend in hot water until you reach a spreadable consistency.
  • Frost warm cookies generously.
