Traditional Christmas toffee recipe passed down for generations.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 pound butter
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 (1.45 ounce) bars dark chocolate candy
Instructions:
  • Prepare the baking pan by greasing it with your favorite cooking oil.
  • In a heavy saucepan, melt sugar, butter, water, and salt together. Stir constantly until the mixture reaches 310 degrees F (160 degrees C) on a candy thermometer to achieve a light crack stage. Take the pan off the heat, add vanilla, and transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan.
  • Place the chocolate bars on top of the hot mixture to let them melt, then spread the chocolate evenly over the top. Chill until set, then break into pieces before serving.
