Try this irresistible twist on a classic dish: Ground turkey on pita crusts with tomatoes and melty cheese, baked to perfection. Enjoy a hot, fork-worthy delight!
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 2 pita breads (6 inches in diameter)
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium celery stalk, sliced (1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (2 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion
  • Paprika, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 425°F. In a 10-inch skillet over medium heat, sauté turkey with butter and poultry seasoning until turkey is cooked through; remember to drain any excess liquid.
  • Carefully split each pita bread along the edge with a knife to create 2 rounds. Arrange the pita rounds in an ungreased 9x9x2 inch square pan, lining the bottom and halfway up the sides (they will slightly overlap in the middle). Layer turkey, tomato, and celery on top of the pitas.
  • Combine all remaining ingredients, excluding paprika, and spread them evenly over the dish. Sprinkle with paprika and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the topping turns a light brown color.
