Indulge in a decadent Black Forest cake with cherry liqueur, real cream filling, and rich chocolate cake.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups white sugar, divided
  • 1.6666667461395 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup cherry liqueur, divided
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons cherry liqueur
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 (16 ounce) can pitted sour cherries, drained
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line two 8-inch round pans with parchment paper.
  • Combine 1 1/2 cups white sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl, sifting them together. In a separate large bowl, beat shortening and the remaining 1/2 cup white sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract with the last egg. Alternate adding portions of the flour mixture and buttermilk to the shortening mixture, beating after each addition until a smooth batter forms. Finally, pour the batter into the prepared baking pans.
  • Simply bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 35 to 40 minutes. Let it cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Peel off parchment from cake bottoms and slice each layer in half horizontally to create 4 layers. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of cherry liqueur over each cake half.
  • In a chilled glass or metal bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Add 2 tablespoons of cherry liqueur and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract while continuing to beat. Gradually mix in confectioners' sugar and salt until the cream filling is smooth and stiff.
  • Spread one cake layer generously with a quarter of the luscious cream filling, then scatter one-third of the juicy cherries on top. Repeat with two more layers. Gently place the fourth layer on top and generously frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining irresistible cream filling.
