Apple pie with caramel-pecan base, flipped post-bake.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 0.5 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup margarine, melted
  • 1 pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a 9 inch deep-dish pie pan, mix pecans, brown sugar, and margarine; spread evenly. Roll out dough and place on top of pecan mixture.
  • Combine fresh, crisp apples with a perfect balance of sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a spacious bowl. Transfer this delicious mixture into the pie crust in the pan. Carefully place the second crust on top, then elegantly fold and flute the edges to seal in all the scrumptious flavors. Finish by creating several small slits on the top crust to allow the aromatic steam to escape, ensuring a perfect golden-brown finish.
  • Place the pan on a foil-lined cookie sheet to prevent any spills. Bake in a preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is a beautiful golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Allow the pie to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Carefully place a serving plate over the pie and invert it, avoiding contact with hot sugar. If any nuts stick to the pan, gently remove them with a knife and place them back on the pie. Let the pie cool for 1 hour before serving.
