Tangy Western Carolina BBQ sauce with a hint of ketchup.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups cider vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1.3333333730698 cups ketchup
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • Combine vinegar, sugar, ketchup, butter, hot pepper sauce, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, mustard powder, salt, and pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over high heat, then simmer over medium-low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer the sauce to a heat-proof bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 2 days.
  • Pass the sauce through a fine mesh sieve to remove any red pepper flakes. Chill the sauce in the fridge and let it come to room temperature before serving.
