Indulgent pan-seared steak with crispy bacon and decadent whiskey, mustard, and rosemary sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds beef round steak, 1 inch thick
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 0.33333334326744 cup sweet-hot mustard, divided
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, or as needed
  • 0.66666668653488 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Instructions:
  • Season both sides of the steaks with a generous amount of salt and pepper, then elegantly arrange them on a plate.
  • Combine minced garlic and all but 2 teaspoons of mustard in a small bowl. Coat one side of the steaks with half of the mustard mixture and marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Fry bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crispy and golden, for 7 to 9 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate, crumble when cooled, and retain the flavorful grease in the skillet.
  • Heat some grease in a pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil if needed to cover the bottom of the pan. Cook steaks with the mustard-side down until golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Spread the rest of the mustard mixture over the steaks, flip them, and cook until browned on the other side, about 2 minutes. Transfer the steaks to a serving platter and keep them warm.
  • Combine whiskey, fragrant rosemary, umami-rich Worcestershire sauce, sweet brown sugar, tangy lemon juice, and 2 teaspoons of mustard in the skillet. Simmer over medium-high heat for 2 minutes to let the flavors meld together beautifully.
  • Top steaks with crispy crumbled bacon and drizzle with sauce before serving.
