Create a simple, spooky Halloween cake that's perfect for parties and easy to make. A delightfully witchy treat that kids can help decorate, using minimal ingredients for a stunning dessert centerpiece.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • 1 teaspoon green and 2 drops yellow gel food color from 1 box Betty Crocker™ Classic Gel Food Color
  • Betty Crocker™ Dessert Decorations Candy Eyeballs, as desired
  • Candy sprinkles, as desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans), then generously grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs on medium speed for 2 minutes, making sure to scrape the bowl occasionally. Divide the batter evenly by pouring 1 1/3 cups into each pan.
  • Bake the cakes for 17 to 21 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to cooling racks. Let them cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 tubs of frosting with 1 teaspoon of green food color and 2 drops of yellow food color. Adjust the green food color as needed until you achieve your desired hue.
  • Prepare a decorating bag with a 1/2-inch round piping tip and fill it with frosting. Place the first cake layer on a plate and pipe a thick frosting border around the top edge. Spread frosting inside the border. Add the second cake layer and repeat the process. Place the third cake layer on top and do the same with the frosting. Pipe frosting into mounds on top of the cake, alternating sizes.
  • Add a fun and whimsical touch by embellishing with candy eyeballs and sprinkles on top and sides of the cake. Keep the cake covered at room temperature.
