Indulgent yellow cake with rich homemade chocolate frosting, finished with crushed malt balls.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup malted milk powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 cup chocolate-covered malted milk balls, crushed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and generously spray 2 (9-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes to blend all Cake ingredients until smooth. Pour the batter evenly into the pans.
  • Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool for 10 minutes before removing them from the pans to cooling racks. Allow to cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, malted milk powder, and unsweetened cocoa using an electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until well combined. Stir in 4 tablespoons of cream until fully incorporated. Beat for about 3 minutes until frosting becomes light and fluffy, adding more cream as needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Place one deliciously moist cake layer on a beautiful serving plate and generously spread with half a cup of heavenly frosting. Gently add the second cake layer on top. Frost the sides and the top of the cake with a delicate layer of frosting to capture any stray crumbs. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set.
  • Spread the remaining frosting all over the cake, then top it off with crushed malted milk balls for a delicious finish.
