Make apple butter in slow cooker. Perfect for gifting.
Ingredients:
  • 12 apples - peeled, cored, and cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • In a slow cooker, mix together apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and cloves.
  • Cook on High for 4 to 6 hours, or until the apples are tender enough to easily mash with a fork.
  • Blend the apple mixture with an immersion blender until creamy.
  • Place jars and lids in boiling water for 5 minutes. Fill hot, sterilized jars with apple butter, leaving 1/4 inch of space at the top. Remove air bubbles by running a knife or spatula around the inside of the jars. Clean rims of jars with a moist paper towel. Seal with lids and rings.
  • Position a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill halfway with water. Bring to a boil. Carefully lower jars into the boiling water using a holder, ensuring a 2-inch space between them. Add more boiling water if needed to ensure the water level is at least 1 inch above the tops of the jars. Cover the pot and process for 10 minutes in a rolling boil.
  • Carefully lift the jars out of the stockpot and set them on a cloth-covered or wood surface, spacing them apart. Allow them to cool completely. Check the seal by pressing the top of each lid with a finger to ensure it is tight and does not move. Store in a cool, dark place.
