Cheddar cheese adds a gooey and savory twist to classic apple pie, making it irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (9 inch) frozen pie crust, thawed
  • 6 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 5 medium apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) prepared pie crust, at room temperature
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Sprinkle the base of the pie crust with Cheddar cheese slices. Arrange the apples in a circular pattern in the crust, stacking the slices on top of each other. Let it sit.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour until smooth, then add white sugar, brown sugar, and 1/4 cup water. Simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool for 5 to 10 minutes before using.
  • Drizzle the butter mixture over the apple slices ensuring they are all covered. Place additional pie crust on top and seal the edges. Use a fork to create steam vents on the surface. Combine egg white and 1 teaspoon water, then brush over the pie crust using a basting brush.
  • After baking in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake until the top turns a lovely golden brown and the dish is fully cooked, for another 35 minutes.
