Drizzle apple-studded cake with luscious caramel sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups chopped peeled or unpeeled cooking apples (2 medium)
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup half-and-half
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously grease an 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  • In a large bowl, cream together brown sugar and softened butter until fluffy. Mix in the egg. Add flour, baking soda, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gently fold in the apples. Spread the batter evenly in the pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 to 35 minutes.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, simply heat the sauce ingredients over medium heat, stirring often, until the butter is melted and the sauce is hot. Pour the warm sauce over the cake and enjoy!
