Combine two family meal classics into one hearty and satisfying dish for dinner.
Ingredients:
  • 1 package (1 lb) small pasta shells
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese (12 oz)
  • 4 slices bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled
  • 2 plum (Roma) tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen potato nuggets
  • Shredded or grated Parmesan cheese, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Cook pasta in a Dutch oven or 3-quart saucepan according to package instructions, then drain and return to the Dutch oven.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the beef and onion for 5 to 7 minutes until the beef is cooked through and the onion is tender. Season with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and pepper. Stir in ketchup and Worcestershire sauce off the heat and cover to keep warm.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour, then gradually pour in milk. Simmer and cook for 2 minutes while stirring constantly. Remove from heat and mix in Cheddar cheese and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Pour this cheesy goodness over the pasta in your Dutch oven and give it a good stir to coat everything evenly.
  • Transfer the pasta mixture into a casserole dish. Spread the beef mixture on top and sprinkle with bacon. Add the tomatoes and potato nuggets to finish.
  • Bake the dish until the potatoes are golden and crisp, then generously sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
