Indulge in fluffy choc-chip pretzels - a delightful snack for any time of day!
Ingredients:
  • 257.50 gm milk, warmed
  • 7g sachet dried yeast
  • 2.40 gm salt
  • 625.00 ml plain flour
  • 60g butter, softened
  • 125.00 ml dark chocolate chips
  • 20.00 gm bicarbonate of soda
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, combine milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture. Allow it to stand for 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy. Add salt, flour, and half the butter to make a sticky dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Fold in the chocolate chips. Place the dough in a greased large bowl, cover, and let it rest in a warm spot for 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare 2 large baking trays by greasing them. Preheat the oven to 230C/210C fan-forced.
  • Take the dough and divide it into 6 even portions. Roll each portion into a 70cm-long log, then twist to form a pretzel shape. Place the pretzels on the prepared trays and repeat with the rest of the dough portions. Enjoy!
  • In a shallow dish, pour 1 1/2 cups of warm water and mix in bicarbonate of soda until fully dissolved. Dip each pretzel into the mixture one by one, letting excess drip off before placing them back onto the trays. Bake for 12 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  • Next, melt the remaining butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Brush the pretzels with the melted butter. Place them on a wire rack and let them stand for 10 minutes to cool slightly before serving.
