Succulent sweet Italian sausage over fluffy gnocchi with creamy cheese sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1 shallot, thinly sliced
  • 1.5 pounds sweet Italian sausage links
  • 1 (16 ounce) package refrigerated gnocchi
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Italian cheese blend
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Combine the sliced shallot with a drizzle of olive oil in a heavy pot or dutch oven, ensuring they are thoroughly coated.
  • Place sausages on top of the shallot mixture.
  • Roast in the oven until the sausage is fully cooked and no longer pink in the center, rotating them for even browning, for 25-30 minutes. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the center reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Place the sausages on a serving platter, cover them, and leave them aside.
  • In the pot used for cooking the sausage, melt the butter over medium heat. Add milk and gently simmer.
  • Gently incorporate most of the Italian cheese blend until melted; save the rest for sprinkling on top. Take the cheese sauce off the heat, stirring occasionally to maintain its smooth texture.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, then cook the gnocchi until it floats to the top, about 3 minutes. Drain and enjoy!
  • Plate sausage and gnocchi, generously drizzle with cheese sauce, and finish with a sprinkle of reserved cheese and fresh basil.
