Elevate your barbecue game with flavorful teriyaki tofu steaks.
Ingredients:
  • 60ml (1/4 cup) dark soy sauce
  • 60ml (1/4 cup) sake
  • 40.00 ml mirin (rice wine)
  • 40.00 gm caster sugar
  • 1 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 3 x 375g packet firm tofu, cut into 1cm-thick slices
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 18.40 gm vegetable oil
  • 12.00 gm toasted sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions, ends trimmed, thinly sliced
  • 1 red birds-eye chilli, diagonally thinly sliced
Instructions:
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix together soy sauce, sake, mirin, sugar, and ginger. Allow the mixture to simmer until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally for 2-3 minutes. Take off the heat and let it cool slightly before using.
  • Arrange the tofu in a glass or ceramic dish in a single layer. Pour the soy mixture and sesame oil over it. Cover with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the fridge for 4 hours.
  • Heat up the barbecue flat plate on medium-high and brush it with vegetable oil. Cook the tofu for 3 minutes per side until caramelized. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds, green onions, and chilli. Serve right away.
