Decadent brown sugar frosting on vanilla bars - irresistible!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (do not use margarine), softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter (do not use margarine)
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and eggs until fluffy. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread batter evenly in an ungreased 13x9-inch pan.
  • Bake until the top turns golden brown, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool completely for about 45 minutes before serving.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add brown sugar and cook for 2 minutes while stirring constantly. Pour in the milk and bring to a rolling boil. Remove from heat. Slowly mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and spreadable. Adjust consistency by adding milk gradually, if needed. Spread the frosting on the brownies and top with pecans. Cut into 6 rows by 6 rows for serving.
