Cheesy broccoli gratin with crispy bread crumbs for even the pickiest eaters.
Ingredients:
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch garlic powder
  • 1 pinch onion powder
  • 2 slices stale bread
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for a perfect bake.
  • 1. Insert a steamer over boiling water in a saucepan. Steam broccoli covered until tender, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt 5 tablespoons of butter until smooth. Stir in flour, continue stirring to maintain a light color. Gradually pour in milk while stirring. Remove from heat and mix in Cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • After draining the broccoli, transfer it to a casserole dish and generously smother it with velvety cheese sauce.
  • While the dish is baking in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes, crush bread into crumbs and sauté in a skillet with the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter until golden brown, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the broccoli and bake until beautifully golden for an additional 5 minutes.
