Freshly baked herb biscuits - a cozy comfort classic!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried herb leaves, such as rosemary, basil or thyme, or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Combine flour, baking powder, herbs, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Blend in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Gently fold in buttermilk until dough comes together (it will be soft and slightly sticky).
  • Lightly knead the dough 10 times on a floured surface. Roll or pat the dough to a 1-inch thickness and cut with a floured 2-inch cutter. Place the biscuits 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and brush with butter.
  • Bake for 14 to 16 minutes or until beautifully golden. Remove from the oven and indulge while still warm.
