Caramel apple crumble: Tart Granny Smith apples with sweet caramel layer and buttery oat topping.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 5 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
Instructions:
  • In a large pot, submerge the unopened can of sweetened condensed milk in water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3 hours, ensuring the can is always covered with hot water. Using tongs, carefully remove the can from the water and let it cool for about 20 minutes before opening.
  • In a large bowl, combine apples. In a separate small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix the flour and spice mixture into the apples. Transfer the apple mixture to a 9x13-inch baking pan. Stir vanilla extract into water and drizzle over the apples.
  • Carefully open the can of sweetened condensed milk. Stir the caramelized milk until smooth, then evenly drizzle it over the apple mixture.
  • Combine oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Blend in butter until crumbly. Spread mixture over apples and caramel.
  • Simply bake until the apples are tender and the crumble is lightly browned, approximately 25 minutes in the preheated oven.
