Whip up tasty sweet or savory scones for a delicious after-school treat.
Ingredients:
  • 525.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 2.40 gm salt
  • 60g butter, chopped
  • 386.25 gm milk
  • 40.00 ml finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs
  • 165.00 ml grated tasty cheese
  • extra milk, for brushing
  • butter, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced and prepare an 18cm x 28cm slice pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter and rub together until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Create a crater at the center of the mixture. Pour in the milk, chives, dried herbs, and 3/4 of the cheese. Blend with a flat-bladed knife until dough is nearly combined. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Gently knead the dough until it comes together. Press it out to a 3cm-thick round. Dip a 6cm round cutter in flour and cut out scones. Press any leftover dough pieces together and repeat to make a total of 12 scones.
  • Arrange the scones closely together in the pan. Brush with extra milk and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until they are lightly golden and sound hollow when tapped on top. Serve with butter.
