Delectable layers of pasta, savory beef, and tangy pickles make a satisfying dish for six.
Ingredients:
  • 6 oz. uncooked vermicelli or spaghetti
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 lb. lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup cooked real bacon pieces
  • 1 (15-oz.) can Italian-style tomato sauce
  • 4 oz. (1 cup) finely shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 9 dill pickle hamburger slices
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 1/2-inch deep-dish or 10-inch glass pie pan with nonstick cooking spray. Cook vermicelli according to package instructions, then drain.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the egg and mustard until well combined. Mix in the cooked vermicelli until evenly coated. Press the mixture into a pie pan coated with cooking spray, ensuring it forms a crust along the sides of the pan.
  • In a large nonstick skillet, break up the ground beef and add the onion. Sprinkle with seasoned salt and cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the beef is fully cooked. Remember to drain excess fat before continuing.
  • Combine the bacon and tomato sauce, then spread the mixture evenly over the vermicelli in the pie pan, ensuring it reaches nearly to the edges. Top with 1/2 cup of the cheese.
  • Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Add pickle slices and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese. Bake for an extra 10-15 minutes until heated through and cheese is melted. Allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
