Italian casserole elevated with sweet and savory barbecue sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups uncooked ziti pasta (11 oz)
  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (6 oz)
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Follow package instructions to cook and drain the pasta.
  • In a 12-inch skillet, cook the beef and onion over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes until the beef is nicely browned; then drain any excess fat.
  • Combine cooked pasta, a generous amount of fresh parsley, creamy milk, tangy barbecue sauce, melty mozzarella cheese, and a generous amount of sharp Cheddar into the savory beef mixture in the skillet. Transfer everything into a casserole dish, and top it off with a final sprinkling of that irresistible Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake for 30 to 40 minutes uncovered until hot and bubbly, then sprinkle with the remaining tablespoon of parsley.
