Make-ahead, freezer-friendly pasta bake for easy school lunches.
Ingredients:
  • 625.00 ml macaroni pasta
  • 60g butter
  • 62.50 ml plain flour
  • 515.00 gm milk
  • 375.00 ml grated cheddar cheese
  • 150g shaved ham, chopped
  • 40.00 ml flat-leaf parsley leaves, finely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Cook the pasta in a large saucepan of boiling salted water according to the package instructions until tender.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter until foamy. Stir in flour and cook for 30 seconds. Remove from heat. Whisk in half of the milk until smooth, then add the rest of the milk. Return to heat and cook, stirring, until the sauce boils and thickens, about 3 minutes. Stir in 1 cup of cheese and season with salt and pepper.
  • After draining the pasta, toss it back in the saucepan. Mix in ham, parsley, and white sauce until well combined. Transfer to a 7-cup baking dish. Sprinkle with the rest of the cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden. Let it cool. Cut into 8 slices.
