Indulgent chocolate-dipped orange peel, a surefire hit!
Ingredients:
  • 2 thick-skinned oranges (such as Valencia)
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 100g good-quality dark chocolate, roughly chopped
Instructions:
  • Take each orange and cut it into quarters, then gently separate the flesh from the skin. Use a sharp knife to trim off any extra white pith from the skin to ensure a sweet flavor.
  • Slice the peel into 0.5cm-wide strips. Have an adult assist you in transferring it to a heatproof bowl and pour boiling water over it. Let it soak for 5 minutes, drain, and repeat this process two more times. Ensure thorough draining before using.
  • In a saucepan, combine 1 cup (250ml) cold water and sugar. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Add peel and simmer for 10 minutes until translucent. Transfer to a wire rack over a tray, loosely cover with foil, and let sit at room temperature overnight.
  • Enlist an adult to assist you in melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water. Make sure the bowl does not touch the water. Allow the chocolate to cool slightly. Dip half of each orange peel strip in the chocolate, then place them back on the rack to harden.
