Spiced shortbread cookies with nutmeg, clove, and orange zest, dipped in chocolate. Perfect for holiday trays.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons orange zest, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 4 ounces milk chocolate, melted
Instructions:
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix together flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Add butter and mix until it forms a crumbly mixture. If needed, add milk to achieve a smooth dough that forms a non-sticky ball. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in wax paper, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and prepare 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Gently dust a clean countertop with flour, then roll out the dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to create shapes and place them on the baking sheets.
  • Bake cookies in the preheated oven until bottoms are lightly golden, 18 to 22 minutes. Then, cool them on wire racks for about 30 minutes until completely cooled.
  • Prepare a work surface with wax paper. Dip the cookie tops into the melted chocolate, allowing any extra chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Transfer the cookies to the wax paper and promptly sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of orange zest on top. Allow the cookies to dry.
