Apple cinnamon roll casserole: Chilled dough hugs spiced apples for a sweet, gooey treat that's perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 0.5 cup maple syrup, divided
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 (17.5 ounce) cans refrigerated cinnamon roll dough with icing
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook diced apples in a large skillet over medium heat with brown sugar, 1/2 cup of maple syrup, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let it simmer until apples are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Whisk together milk, eggs, and the last teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Unwrap the cinnamon rolls and save the icing. Cut each roll into 6 pieces. Toss the pieces in the milk mixture until well coated. Take them out and press into the baking dish.
  • Layer the spiced apples on top of the cinnamon roll layer. Proceed to slice and coat the remaining tube of cinnamon rolls again as in the previous step, then place them on top of the apples to create a second layer. Finish by drizzling the remaining 1/4 cup of maple syrup over the top.
  • Bake in the oven until the top is golden brown and puffy, about 30-35 minutes.
  • Warm up 2 icing packets in the microwave for 5 to 10 seconds until smooth and pourable; generously drizzle over the casserole before serving hot.
