Cinnamon-spiced apple bars with sweet icing - just like apple pie, but in a bar!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 4 medium baking apples, peeled and sliced
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect baking temperature.
  • In a bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the crust. Add butter and cut it into the mixture using 2 knives or a pastry blender until it resembles crumbs. Gently fold in the egg yolks. Press half of the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking pan and save the rest for the topping.
  • Coat apple slices with sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Arrange them neatly on top of the crust, drizzle with remaining juices, and sprinkle the remaining crust mixture over the apples.
  • Bake in the oven until the sides are bubbly and the top is golden brown, for approximately 40 minutes.
  • Combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the icing while the bars are in the oven.
  • Take the bars out of the oven and promptly pour the icing on top. Allow them to cool to room temperature for approximately 30 minutes before cutting into 12 bars and serving.
