Elevate your mac and cheese with succulent shrimp, zesty Creole seasoning, and tangy Creole mustard.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (8 ounce) box elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 12 ounces uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons Creole seasoning (such as Tony Chachere's®)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Creole mustard
Instructions:
  • 1. Boil a large pot of lightly salted water. 2. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • As the macaroni cooks, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp and sprinkle with Creole seasoning. Stir constantly for 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook until shrimp turns pink, approximately 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Rinse the cooked macaroni under cold water to halt the cooking process, then set aside. Melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter in the pasta pot over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until dissolved, for about 2 minutes. Pour in the half-and-half and heat for 3 minutes.
  • Whisk in a mix of cheeses until fully melted and gooey, which should take approximately 5 minutes. Stir in the mustard and let it cook for an additional 2 minutes before turning off the heat.
  • Combine the macaroni and shrimp you set aside earlier. Stir until everything is warm. Serve right away.
