Apple pie with delectable crunchy streusel topping, best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 (9 inch) frozen pie crust
  • aluminum foil
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 0.5 cup butter
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Prepare the apple pie filling: Combine apple slices with a mixture of white sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice until apples are evenly coated.
  • Take the pie shell out of the freezer. Pour the apple mixture into the pie shell and dot it with butter. Gently place a sheet of aluminum foil on top of the filling without sealing it.
  • Place the pie in the oven that has been preheated and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Prepare the streusel topping by combining flour, oats, brown sugar, lemon zest, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Incorporate the butter until the mixture becomes crumbly. Sprinkle the streusel over the pie once it is removed from the oven.
  • Lower the oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), then place the pie back in the oven. Bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes until the streusel is golden brown and the apples are soft. Lightly cover the pie with aluminum foil to avoid over-browning.
