Easy homemade rustic loaf using 5 pantry staples for any mealtime.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1.5 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1.5 tablespoons coarse salt
  • 6.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cornmeal
Instructions:
  • Combine water, yeast, and salt in a large bowl and allow the mixture to sit until it becomes foamy, about 10 minutes.
  • Mix flour into yeast mixture until thoroughly combined; the dough will be soft and moist. Cover bowl with a damp cloth and allow to rest for approximately 5 hours.
  • Shape dough into 2 loaves with moistened hands. Place on a cornmeal-dusted surface, score tops with a sharp knife, then transfer to a baking sheet to rise until doubled, 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Bake the loaves in a preheated oven until they are golden brown, about 20 minutes, spraying the surface of the dough occasionally with water to create a crispy crust.
