German-inspired fried quince recipe: Quinces cooked in butter, dipped in lemon batter, fried in coconut oil, and sprinkled with dark sugar for a sweet and crispy treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon clarified butter
  • 1.3333333730698 pounds quinces - peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 0.5 cup dark beer
  • 1 dash vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons finely grated fresh lemon zest
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil, or as needed
  • 3 tablespoons demerara sugar
Instructions:
  • In a skillet, warm the clarified butter over low heat. Add the quince wedges and cover, cooking gently until soft, approximately 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Combine the flour, white sugar, and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beer, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the beer mixture until a smooth batter forms.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the coconut oil until hot. Dip quince wedges in the batter, then fry in batches until golden brown. Transfer the fried quinces to a warm platter and sprinkle with demerara sugar before serving.
