Create a deliciously tangy pie filling with apples, oranges, lemons, brown sugar, raisins, spices, and green tomatoes. Perfect for gifting in 30 pint-sized jars.
Ingredients:
  • 8 quarts green tomatoes, minced
  • 8 quarts minced, cored apples
  • 0.5 pound beef suet
  • 6 pounds brown sugar
  • 1 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons ground allspice
  • 2 pounds raisins
  • 32 ounces candied mixed citrus peel
  • 7 large orange, peeled, sectioned, and cut into bite-size
  • 2 lemons, finely chopped
Instructions:
  • Combine green tomatoes, apples, suet (or oil), brown sugar, vinegar, chopped oranges, chopped lemons, raisins, candied peel, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice in a large stock pot. Simmer covered on low heat for 3 hours.
  • Follow the manufacturer's guidelines to sterilize 30 (1 pint) canning jars and lids.
  • Carefully spoon the filling into the sterilized jars, making sure to leave a 1/2 inch gap at the top. Gently wipe the jars with a clean, damp cloth. Secure the lids on the jars by covering them and twisting on the rings.
  • 1. Prepare hot water canner and ensure jars are immersed completely. Bring water to a gentle boil. Process for 10 minutes.
