Tangy green tomato and green apple pie is a festive treat.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups chopped green tomato
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped tart green apples
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup chopped raisins
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan, mix together tomatoes, apples, brown sugar, raisins, vinegar, butter, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until bubbly and slightly reduced, approximately 25 minutes. Take the saucepan off the heat and let it cool for about 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a piping hot 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Then, elegantly press the divine pie crust into a charming 9-inch pie dish.
  • Fill the pie crust with the green tomato filling, then cover with the second pie crust, sealing the edges by crimping them together.
  • Bake in the preheated oven at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Lower the temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and bake until golden brown, for an additional 20 to 25 minutes.
