Ultimate Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs stuffed with cheese, onions, and sauerkraut, grilled to perfection for the best hot dog experience.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 large hot dogs, knockwurst, or kielbasa
  • 1/2 ounce cheddar cheese, cut into long sticks
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 1 cup prepared sauerkraut, drained, roughly chopped
  • 4 slices bacon
  • Vegetable oil
  • 4 long hot dog buns
Instructions:
  • Preheat your grill to medium high heat direct cooking.
  • Cut a deep pocket in each hot dog lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Fill each pocket with the ketchup and mustard mixture.
  • For each hot dog, tuck a strip of cheese inside, along with sauerkraut and onions. Make sure to fully cover the cheese with the sauerkraut mixture to prevent any dripping during cooking.
  • Wrap each hot dog with a strip of bacon and secure with toothpicks at each end. Ensure the bacon is wrapped snugly to keep the stuffing in place, but not too tight to prevent tearing when the hot dog expands while cooking.
  • Preheat and prepare the grill by brushing the grates with vegetable oil to prevent sticking. If using a grill screen, coat it with oil and pre-heat for a couple of minutes. Place the stuffed hot dogs on the grill, stuffing side down. Grill for 2 minutes until the bacon is cooked, then turn a quarter turn and grill for a couple more minutes. Repeat this process for all sides until the bacon is fully cooked, covering the grill in between each turn for even cooking.
  • Toast the hot dog buns on the grill: Open the buns and place them open-side down on the grill during the last minute of cooking to lightly toast.
  • Serve: Take the hot dogs and buns off the grill, remove the toothpicks, place the hot dogs in the buns, and serve.
