Spicy fusion patties combining two beloved family dishes.
Ingredients:
  • 5 large tortilla chips, crushed (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1/4 cup from 1 bottle (9 oz) Old El Paso™ Mild Taco Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 lb extra-lean (at least 90%) ground beef
  • 6 slices (1 oz each) pepper Jack cheese
  • 6 burger buns, split
  • 3/4 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, coarsely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat the grill while combining crushed chips, taco sauce, salt, pepper, and beef in a bowl. Form 6 patties, each 5 inches in diameter, and gently press your thumb in the center to create a slight indentation, making sure the bottom is about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Grill the patties over medium heat, covering the grill, for 5 minutes. Flip the patties and continue cooking for about 5 more minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted in the center reads 160°F. Place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and cook for 1 more minute, just until the cheese starts to melt.
  • Spray the cut sides of the buns with cooking spray and grill them, cut sides down, until golden brown, for about 2 minutes.
  • Place the cheesy patties on the bottom halves of the buns, layer with lettuce and tomato, and finally cover with the top halves of the buns before serving.
