Batch make this enticing hot buttered rum with a hint of orange and vanilla for your next holiday gathering.
Ingredients:
  • For the orange-vanilla butter:
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or the seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean pod)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch salt
  • To serve:
  • 6 ounces dark rum
  • 3 cups near-boiling hot water
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
  • For the compound butter, use a stand mixer with a beater attachment or a hand mixer to whip together the butter, brown sugar, orange zest, vanilla, spices, and salt until fluffy. Refrigerate in an airtight container if making ahead.
  • Serving: Distribute the butter evenly among four mugs, using 3-4 tablespoons in each. Pour 1 1/2 ounces of rum into each mug, then fill with hot water to your liking. Mix until the butter and sugar dissolve. Decorate with cinnamon sticks and savor while it's hot!
