Master the Indian classic with our quick and easy guide to flawless naan bread.
Ingredients:
  • 450g (3 cups) bread and pizza plain flour
  • 2 tsp (7g sachet) dried yeast
  • 2.40 gm sea salt flakes
  • 5.00 gm caster sugar
  • 185ml (3/4 cup) warm water
  • 90g (1/3 cup) natural yoghurt
  • 36.80 gm vegetable oil
  • 30g ghee, melted
  • Sesame seeds, toasted, to serve (optional)
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Add water, yogurt, and oil. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Oil a large bowl, then place the dough in it. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • While the oven is preheating to 250°C/230°C fan forced, make sure to also preheat a pizza stone for 40 minutes. After that, punch down the dough and divide it into 6 portions.
  • Roll out each portion of dough into a 12 x 20cm oval shape on a lightly floured surface using a rolling pin.
  • Coat the dough with oil on both sides. Bake on a hot pizza stone for about 5 minutes, or until the naan bread is puffed and lightly golden.
  • Coat naan bread with flavorful ghee and add sesame seeds for extra crunch, if desired. Wrap in foil to keep warm. Repeat process for remaining dough to create a total of 6 delicious naan breads.
  • For the filled naan, roll out each dough portion into a 15cm disc. Spread filling in the center, fold sides over, pinch together to seal. Roll gently into a 12 x 20cm oval shape. Place seam-side down on a pizza stone and bake for 5 minutes until puffed and light golden.
