Easy and flavorful Japanese-style braised baby back ribs with rice. Perfect for a simple meal.
Ingredients:
  • 3 pounds baby back pork ribs
  • 0.66666668653488 cup soy sauce
  • 0.33333334326744 cup sake
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups uncooked white rice
  • 3 medium green onions, thinly sliced
Instructions:
  • Separate the silverskin from the back of the ribs using the pointed end of a meat thermometer, then remove it by pulling up. Dry the ribs with paper towels and cut them into individual ribs.
  • Combine soy sauce, sake, and honey in a small bowl, then set aside.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, heat oil until hot. Brown ribs in batches until they develop a nice crust, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer ribs to a plate.
  • Remove excess oil from the Dutch oven. Gently pour in soy sauce mixture, using a wooden spoon or spatula to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom. Add ribs to the pot, raise heat to medium-high, and bring to a boil. Cover tightly, then remove from heat.
  • Roast in the preheated oven for 2 1/2 hours, ensuring ribs are tender and no longer pink, flip them over halfway through cooking.
  • While waiting, let the water and rice come to a boil in a saucepan. Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until the rice is tender and all the water has been absorbed.
  • To serve, plate the ribs drizzled with sauce alongside fluffy white rice, then garnish with a generous sprinkle of finely chopped green onions.
