Indulgent and crispy potato patties are the perfect meal centerpiece.
Ingredients:
  • 3 slices bacon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 0.25 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1.25 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded American cheese
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 0.25 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 dash hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until evenly browned, turning occasionally, for about 10 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Preserve the bacon grease in the skillet and crumble the bacon.
  • Combine butter and bacon grease in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion, celery, and garlic until tender and lightly browned, around 15 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl and mix in mashed potatoes, American cheese, flour, egg, mustard, black pepper, and hot sauce with the cooked bacon.
  • 1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Spoon and flatten mashed potato mixture into patties, then fry until golden brown on both sides, about 5 to 7 minutes. Serve with sour cream.
