Indulgent maple-chocolate bars made with Betty Crocker™ cookie mix and topped with homemade maple buttercream frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch square pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine cookie mix, 1/2 cup softened butter, egg, and 1/2 teaspoon maple extract in a large bowl and mix until a soft dough forms. Fold in 1/2 cup of walnuts and spread the dough evenly in a pan.
  • Bake for 20 to 24 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together powdered sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1/4 teaspoon maple extract until smooth and fluffy. If the frosting is too stiff, add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time. Spread the frosting on top of the bar and sprinkle with 1/4 cup walnuts. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows.
  • Cover loosely and store in a cool place.
