Make classic spicy molasses cookies, perfect for cookie lovers, rolled and cut to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup full-flavor (dark) molasses
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Using a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar and shortening with an electric mixer on medium speed or mix with a spoon. Add the rest of the cookie ingredients and mix. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a cookie sheet generously with shortening or cooking spray. Roll out half of the dough at a time on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Use a 3-inch round cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them 1 1/2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the center springs back lightly to the touch. Let cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Mix glaze ingredients in a small bowl until smooth, then spread on cooled cookies.
