Indulgent chocolate mud pie - simple and scrumptious!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/3 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired
  • 1/4 cup hot fudge sauce or topping
  • 1 cup whipping (heavy) cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons hot fudge sauce or topping, if desired
  • Additional nuts, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F, then generously grease an 8x1 1/2-inch round pan or a 9x1 1/4-inch pie plate. Combine granulated sugar, butter, flour, cocoa, vanilla, salt, and eggs in a medium bowl. Mix in nuts, then transfer the mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the edges are dry and a toothpick inserted halfway between the center and edge comes out clean (the center will still be moist). Once out of the oven, immediately prick holes in the pie with a toothpick and spread 1/4 cup of fudge sauce over the top. Allow it to cool completely, approximately 1 hour.
  • Whip chilled heavy cream and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Spread over the fudge sauce. Drizzle with 2 to 3 tablespoons of fudge sauce, and sprinkle with extra nuts. Chill any leftover pie covered in the refrigerator.
