Decadent Nutella® filled brioche star perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Ingredients:
  • 3.3333332538605 cups bread flour
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 1 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®)
Instructions:
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine bread flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients with a fork until well distributed. Add milk, egg yolks, and butter. Attach the dough hook and knead until the dough forms a smooth and elastic ball, about 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, drizzle vegetable oil. Add dough and toss to ensure it's coated in oil. Cover with a damp cloth and allow it to double in size in a warm spot, for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Place dough on a clean work surface and gently knead to remove air. Shape dough into a flat oblong, then roll into a log. Cut dough into 4 equal pieces, covering the remaining dough with a damp cloth as you work with one piece at a time.
  • Sprinkle work surface lightly with flour, then roll out the first piece of dough. Place an 8-inch round pan or plate on top, and cut out an 8-inch circle using a sharp knife.
  • Place parchment paper on a baking sheet and transfer the dough circle onto it. Microwave the chocolate-hazelnut spread briefly to soften it, then spread one-third over the dough circle.
  • Layer 2 more pieces of dough with the remaining chocolate-hazelnut spread. Roll out the last piece of dough, cut into an 8-inch circle, and place on top. Invert a pan or plate over the stack and cut through all the layers to create a perfect circle.
  • Position the glass at the center of the circle. With a sharp knife, slice the dough into quarters from the glass's base to the outer edge. Proceed to cut each quarter into eighths and then into sixteenths.
  • Take 2 slices and twist each one twice in opposite directions to form a braid. Repeat around the circle, then pinch and seal all the ends. Cover the braid with a damp cloth and let it rise for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), then delicately brush the lightly beaten egg whites over the dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, until beautifully golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before enjoying.
