Elevate classic puppy chow with Nutella, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and espresso for a sophisticated twist on a childhood favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups (175g) Rice Chex
  • 4 cups (160g) Corn Chex
  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 3/4 cup (122g) dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup (25g) cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, optional
Instructions:
  • Combine both cereals in a spacious mixing bowl for easy stirring.
  • Create a velvety chocolate mixture: Combine Nutella, chocolate, butter, and espresso powder in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for bursts of 10-20 seconds, stirring each time until smooth. Be cautious not to overcook. Finish by stirring in the vanilla.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex and gently toss until well-coated, using a big spoon or rubber spatula. It's normal if the mixture seems stiff at first. Keep tossing until the cereal is fully coated, this might take a few minutes.
  • Coat in powdered sugar: In a large mixing bowl or a big zip-top bag, combine powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add the Nutella-coated Chex and gently toss with a spoon or rubber spatula until evenly coated. Use your hands halfway through to break up any clusters. If using a zip-top bag, add all Chex, seal, and shake well to coat.
  • Cool and store: Spread the puppy chow on a large baking sheet to cool and dry for approximately 30 minutes. If it remains sticky, refrigerate.
