Decorate a tree with edible ornaments for the birds to enjoy during the season.
Ingredients:
  • 4 unsalted rice cakes, about 3 inches in diameter
  • About 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • Birdseed
  • About 3 tablespoons jelly or peanut butter
  • 1 length of twine (2 feet)
  • Dried cranberries (from 6-oz package) or orange slice
  • 1 length of floral wire (1 foot)
  • Ribbon (6 to 12 inches), if desired
Instructions:
  • With a skewer, poke a hole in the center of each rice cake. Spread peanut butter on 2 rice cakes, then sandwich them with the other 2 rice cakes to create 2 delicious treats.
  • Sprinkle birdseed on a cookie sheet. Coat the edges of each sandwich with jelly, then roll in birdseed until fully covered.
  • Create a secure loop by tying a double knot about 6 inches from one end of the twine. Thread the first sandwich through the center hole using the other end of the twine. Secure the sandwich in place by tying another double knot about 6 inches from it. Thread on the second sandwich. Finish by tying a loop at the top end of the twine to hang the bird feeder.
  • String cranberries onto floral wire, leaving 1 inch of exposed wire on each end. Twist ends to create a circle, shaping it into a heart. Attach cranberry heart or orange slice to the bottom end of twine. Finish by tying a ribbon around the twine to form a bow.
