Philly-style cheesesteak sandwich with grilled chicken, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and provolone in a hoagie roll.
Ingredients:
  • 2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 0.5 large onion, sliced
  • 0.5 medium green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 large fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 (10-inch) hoagie rolls, split lengthwise
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 slices tomato, or to taste
  • 4 leaves lettuce, shredded, or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons mayonnaise, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Get the grill ready by preheating it to medium heat and giving the grate a light oiling.
  • Place the chicken between two sheets of heavy plastic on a work surface and gently pound it with a meat mallet's smooth side until it reaches a 1/2-inch thickness.
  • Grill chicken breasts until fully cooked, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Use a thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Shred the meat and season with seasoned salt once done.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sizzle olive oil and butter. Toss in onion, bell pepper, and sliced mushrooms; sauté until golden, about 5 to 7 minutes. Mix in shredded chicken and warm up for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Position the oven rack 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the broiler. Cover a sheet pan with aluminum foil.
  • Arrange the hoagie roll bottoms on the baking sheet while keeping the roll tops to the side.
  • Divide the chicken mixture evenly between the roll bottoms. Top each with 2 slices of provolone cheese placed side-by-side.
  • Broil until the provolone is gooey and bubbling and the hoagie rolls are perfectly crisp, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the oven.
  • Distribute tomato slices and lettuce evenly between the sandwiches. Generously spread mayonnaise on the top of each roll and assemble the sandwiches. Wrap each cheesesteak securely in aluminum foil, ensuring all the fillings are tucked in with a knife. Allow the flavors to meld by letting the sandwiches rest for 1 to 2 minutes before enjoying.
